The Catalina Island Conservancy is no stranger to the limelight, as it continues to be one of our proudest and most visited organizations on the island. With so much to do and see, we hope to make it easy with two of our favorite Conservancy landmarks: the Wrigley Memorial and the Botanical Gardens! Located conveniently from our Inn, visit these landmarks in the morning or afternoon for time well spent. Here’s what you need to know.
Wrigley Memorial
The Wrigley Memorial pays tribute to William Wrigley Jr., an early catalyst in the movement toward conserving Catalina Island for generations to come. Not only does the memorial sit on a pristine landscape with jaw-dropping views of Avalon Canyon and the San Pedro Chanel, but the memorial also takes form with an absolutely stunning structure. The old stones hold a spectacular water fountain brought to life with accents and details in an array of colored Catalina tiles. This iconic landmark is a must-see for new and returning guests alike!
Botanical Gardens
Much like the Wrigley Memorial, the Botanical Gardens are a sight to behold. Just a short walk (around 30 minutes) from downtown Avalon, and only a 5-minute walk from the Memorial, this 38-acre Garden provides the perfect opportunity to get out in nature and learn. The Botanical Garden of Catalina Island features an incredible array of native and endemic species of the land. It means some of these species naturally occur on Catalina and other Channel islands — but in some cases — nowhere else in the world!
With some of these rare species on the Endangered Species List, we consider ourselves incredibly lucky to be able to view them while supporting conservation efforts actively.

It is an excellent opportunity to get outside and learn about the unique environment that makes Catalina Island so special. The flora and fauna will thank you…and us too!
The Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens are a staple of our community here in Avalon that we love to share with those who visit. They both remind us of our need to conserve the world’s most delicate ecosystems. It’s also a cue to slow down and admire nature’s beauty. During your stay at Avalon Hotel, we hope you find the time to reconnect with nature and enjoy an afternoon of fun.
