Located on Catalina Island, just a short passenger ferry ride away from the mainland, Avalon offers a variety of activities that are perfect for fall exploration. Here are some of our favorite things to do in Fall on Catalina Island:

MUSEUM and CULTURE

Don’t miss the upcoming events at the Catalina Museum for Art & History. September 27 is Oktoberfest! No need to travel to Germany when the museum offers a bit of Bavaria right in the heart of Avalon! Family-friendly, live music, a Bavarian polka rock band, and German beer, of course! INSIDER TIP: Be sure and pre-buy your tickets! They sell out fast! Explore exhibits on the island’s famous residents, including Marilyn Monroe, and discover the unique stories that make Avalon such a special place.

HIKING and EXPLORING

Fall is the perfect time to hit the trails and explore the natural beauty of Catalina Island. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll or a more challenged hike, there are plenty of options to choose from. Check out the Trans-Catalina Trail for stunning views of the island’s rugged coastline and diverse wildlife.

CHOOSE your own MUSIC ADVENTURE

The Catalina Island Concert Series offers a wide variety of live music genres from classic country to acoustic guitar, ABBA cover band to bluegrass, and so much more. There is truly something for everyone’s musical tastes.

KAYAKING and PADDLEBOARDING

Take advantage of the calm waters of Avalon Harbor in the fall by renting a kayak or paddleboard. Enjoy a peaceful paddle as you soak in the falls colors and watch for seals and sea lions playing in the water.

FALL FISHING

Fall is an excellent time for fishing on Catalina Island. The waters are teeming with a variety of marine life. Charter a fishing boat and cast your line for a chance to reel in a big catch, whether it’s yellowtail, calico bass, or even a trophy-sized marlin.

GOLFING

Avalon boasts a beautiful 9 hole golf course. Grab your clubs and tee off on this challenging course up Avalon Canyon with some pretty scenery. Finish your afternoon with a street tacos & beer or tequila at the Sand Trap, a locals favorite for breakfast, lunch or happy hour.

SHOPPING and DINING

Avalon’s quaint shops and delicious restaurants are not to be missed in the fall. Browse local boutiques for unique souvenirs and gifts, then cozy up with a warm cup of coffee or a hearty meal at one of Avalon’s charming eateries.

RELAXING on the BEACH

While the weather may be cooling off, Avalon’s beaches are still a great place to relax and unwind in the fall. Pack a picnic and spend a lazy afternoon soaking up the sun and listening to the gentle sound of the waves.

VISIT the WRIGLEY MEMORIAL & BOTANIC GARDEN

Take a stroll through the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden, a peaceful oasis of native plants and flowers that bloom during the fall season. Learn about the island’s unique biodiversity and history as you explore the garden’s pathways. There is a beautiful canyon and ocean-view from from top of the Memorial. For the serious hikers in the bunch, take some water with you and hike further up to the divide road for more spectacular vistas.
